Born in Barangay Bulihan in the City of Malolos on July 10, 1995, Patrick “Atik” Salamat Dela Cruz began his journey through life.
Patrick was the second youngest son of Simeon Dela Cruz and his wife Marciana “Mercy” Dela Cruz. Both hardworking and determined, Simeon and Marciana, brought up their ten children in a simple yet goal-driven manner. Teaching them good ways and setting an example for them to follow. It was from them that Patrick learned much of his work ethics and values.
Patrick has nine other siblings whom he’s very close with. His family are devout Catholics and raised him Catholic as well.
He attended Bulihan Elementary School and Marcelo H. Del Pilar National High School (MHPHS) in Malolos during his elementary and high school days and went to Bulacan State University (BSU) to pursue studying Architecture for college.
Patrick is a family-oriented individual, having been brought up by a close-knitted family. He puts his family above anything else. He considers his mother to be the best woman in the world and his father as one his inspiration, admiring them for their perseverance, unending patience, and unerring love. For him, his family is his source of strength and motivation.
It is also from his family that he learned how to be grateful for the things he has, no matter how small or big it is. He likewise adheres to the belief that “discipline and hard work is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”
His mother had always pressed upon him the importance of having a degree and being educated. His mother believes that excellence in performance includes a commitment to formal and informal learning. For that reason, Patrick has always been keen on finishing his studies despite whatever circumstance face his way.
PUBLIC SERVICE AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Born and brought up in the City of Malolos, Patrick was drawn to politics and public service at a young age. Having been surrounded by a few community and youth leaders in their Barangay, his interest didn’t seem surprising at all. However, public service wasn’t always his first choice as he has consistently been interested in buildings and Architecture growing up. Nevertheless, seeing the smiles on people’s faces after helping them gave him a different sense of purpose and therefore convinced him to run for public office.
In year 2018, at the age of 22, he was elected as the Chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Bulihan. He was likewise elected as the Vice President of the Panlungsod na Pederasyon ng Sannguniang Kabataan ng Malolos, serving alongside the late Hon. Mark Paolo S.D. Manaysay.
During his campaign, he used the tag-line “Bulihan, Una Ka”, a pledge to always serve his beloved Barangay among anything else. He also used the “7K’s”, out lining his platform and his 7-point agenda plan for his Barangay and fellow youth constituents, namely Karunungan (education), Kalusugan (health), Kabuhayan (livelihood), Kapaligiran (environment), Kultura at Kasaysayan (culture & history), Kaayusan at Katahimikan (peace & order), and Kondra-droga (anti-drugs).
As the Chairperson of the Sangguniang Kabataan of Bulihan, he serves as an ex-officio member to the Sangguniang Barangay (Barangay Council). He regularly attends Sanggunian Sessions and spearheads activities and programs for the betterment of their community and the youth in their Barangay.
During his first quarter as a Sannguniang Kabataan official, his projects revolved around sports, education, health and youth empowerment. He set up relief operations and gave educational assistance to underprivileged youth within their Barangay. On December 2018, on a somber turn of events, Patrick was appointed as the new President of the Panlungsod na Pederasyon ng Sangguniang Kabataan ng Malolos.
He promised to continue what Mark Paolo Manaysay started and uphold the former SK Presidents’ tag-line, “Maglilingkod Para sa bawat Malolenyo”. He stresses that like Mark Paolo, his service would not be limited to the youth, but he would open his doors to serve all individuals in the City regardless of their age, gender, and status whichever way he can.
As the President of the City Federation of Sangguniang Kabataan, he now serves as an ex-officio to the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Malolos (City Legislative Council). He regularly attends Sanggunian Sessions and participates in activities and programs of the Sanggunian for the betterment of the City and the overall improvement of the youth within the City.
This time, as the new SK Federation President, he promised that his projects revolve around giving the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) a new facet as well as strengthening the partnership of the youth and the local government.
