The Republica Cup kicked off on February 13, 2017 at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center. Not solely for sports, Republica Cup is an awareness raising cum advocacy for the recognition of January 23, date of the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.

Mayor Christian D. Natividad has campaigned for the last five (5) years that this date be recognized nationally as a non-working holiday. Mayor Natividad relentless in his sports has used all means to his advocacy including sports. In January this year, culture and history was at the forefront and this February, basketball games will get the limelight for his advocacy.

Republica Cup is a national competition of known basketball teams. Atleast 10 ( 4 collegiate and 6 commercial) teams are expected to join the league and for sports camaraderie. The commercial teams include the Mighty Sports, Hobe, Magway Travel, Racal Ceramics, AMAon-line Education, Municipality of Baliuag and Municipality of San Ildefonso. At the Collegiate level, the Bulacan State University, Arellano University, UP Maroons and AMA on-line Education joined. Basketball legends like Kenneth Durenedez, Marlou Aquino, Sunday Salvacion and Gary David added Lustre to part Republica Cups. Other Basketball bigwigs like Mc Belo, Alan Mangahas, Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Ferrer also played in the Republica Cup.
